Description:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z3Zsvm... is a video describing how to learn more about the Mormon Church. This is from the October 2007 World ReportThe Joseph Smith Jr. Family Organization, a group established by descendants of Joseph and Emma Smith, hosted a gathering last summer of over 200 family members. Most were strangers to each other, with different backgrounds and religions, yet they are linked by the same family heritage. The family gathered, shared historical details and visited places where their ancestors lived."In order for you to understand your place in life today, you need to understand your history, your heritage. My heritage is a noble one that goes through Joseph and Emma and beyond to their family. We all have heritage that helped develop those items that we enjoy today." --Mike Kennedy, President of the Joseph Smith Jr. Family OrganizationToday, a number of Joseph's descendants live in Australia. Two of the families at the reunion crossed the seas, just as Joseph's granddaughter did over 120 years ago when she settled there.Gracia Jones, the organization's historian, said this year the reunion focused on Emma Smith. According to recorded history, one of Emma's greatest wishes was that her posterity gather together. She said, "Many who have come to this reunion for the first time have had a new discovery of who they are as people, as individuals, for themselves now in our time. And the pleasure that they're gaining from understanding Joseph Smith and Emma is astonishing."After traveling from Missouri to Illinois, the Smith descendants ended their journey at the historic Nauvoo house where Emma spent her remaining days.Despite their different backgrounds, the Smith descendants found common ground, by walking in the footsteps of their ancestors, and forging a bond with family members that share a past in the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
